About NAM KULAR

Hello, my name is Nam Kular and I have been happily married to my beautiful wife, Raji, for over 13 years. We have two boys, aged 6 and 11 years. Our family has made Beaumont our home for over 6 years.

Before becoming an entrepreneur in greater Edmonton’s real estate market in 2015, I had been professionally employed for 10 years as a Project Controller with a large multinational industrial construction company in Alberta’s energy sector. After moving to various cities with the company, including Omaha, Nebraska, to gain more business experience, we decided to settle in Beaumont to build our real estate business and to raise our family.

After graduating from McNally High School, I had gained early business experience in our family enterprise. I had put my further studies on hold for couple year to run the business, and later I went back to school and graduated from NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) in Business Management (2006). I played on the Ooks soccer team as an extracurricular activity, and I remain an active Alumni member.

Besides playing competitive soccer, I have been volunteering for over 10 years to coach with various association and clubs.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RUN FOR COUNCIL AND WHAT WOULD IT MEAN TO HOLD A SEAT?

I love business, exploring opportunities, and working with people to help fulfill their dreams. Today, Beaumont is at a pivotal point in time as we experience growth, challenges, and opportunities. More than ever, we need leadership in Council to honour our past, thrive in the present, and set the stage for a brighter future for everyone. I am confident I can use my experience and passion to contribute to Beaumont’s success.

I am raising a young family here in our beautiful city while building my real estate business. I see great potential for economic prosperity based on innovation. With foundational work in place, especially the Innovation Park, I believe I can leverage my business experience, relationships, and professional connections to help grow this city into the destination of choice for generations to come. I am energetic, positive, and a very pragmatic person, who gets results and can make change happen, now!

I am optimistic that we have the potential to progress from Better to Best in everything we do. I also believe my fellow citizens of Beaumont will give me their support and confidence so that I can channel my energy to deliver results that matter for everyone in our beautiful, small city on the hill!

I believe it is vitally important to have diversity of experience and values on city Council to reflect the richness of our growing communities. As an informed representative, I will advocate and work for all the citizens of Beaumont to strengthen our social and business infrastructure. This purpose is what drives me everyday – at home, in the community, and in my real estate business. I am a builder who has worked for over ten years in the energy sector as a project controller and proved how to get results that matter. Ethics, integrity, and a strong belief in hard work were instilled in me at a young age while working to graduate from high school and managing a family business. I am determined to ensure that your Council capitalizes on our strengths by focusing on innovation and sustainable growth to make more our city a destination of choice to raise families and attract new businesses that can tap into talent pool. If we set the policies and frameworks for success, I am confident that we can deploy your hard-earned tax dollars to build foundational amenities and provide growth-oriented programs.

IF I AM ELECTED,  I PLAN TO:

  • Help to attract high-growth potential businesses to capitalize on investment in the Beaumont Innovation Park.

  • Promote family-friendly residential development for people of all ages, especially children and our seniors.

  • Build a transparent and efficient licensing and permitting platform for homeowners and businesses

  • Make recreational activities and centres more accessible and affordable for our seniors, including free access to those 65 years old and over.

  • Bring affordable and accessible transport options for residents, including connections to surrounding destinations (Nisku, City of Leduc, City of Edmonton, airport).

Vote for Better, Expect the Best!

Meet the KULARS- My beautiful family!

Raj and Nam were married in 2008.  Raj holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and now works as an insurance agent with Allstate Insurance.  Their family has grown to include two boys: Jigar, who is 10 years old, and Joban, who is five years old. Jigar loves skateboarding, and likes going to the skate park, and both boys love spending time outside. Like most brothers, Joban looks up to his brother as a role model.

Both boys now have something in common with their father: soccer. It’s a passion for Nam, and now both his boys are enjoying the sport known as ‘the beautiful game’.

“I’ve been involved in community from a soccer standpoint for a long time. I love soccer, and I’ve played soccer all my life. I still play, and I’ve been coaching my son, and community teams for the last 6 or 7 years. Our younger son is just getting into soccer, as well,” Nam enthuses.

“I grew up playing soccer – playing in the streets without shoes back where I was born, and then to come here, and go on to play at a college level, on a college team for NAIT, was really kind of the height of my soccer career,” he explains.

It’s a hobby he is pleased to share with his sons because of the many lessons he believes it teaches.

“The biggest thing is that I loved the team sport. Individual sports are great but with team sports you learn a lot about teamwork, decisive action, communication skills, time management, self-esteem, as well as dealing with people. I think it doesn’t matter what kind of team sport it is, but playing a team sport is important and a good way to grow up and learn some valuable skills that will take them beyond the field, pitch, and court. I know I learned a lot, and I made a lot of friends and contacts that I’m still in touch with and I still play with. There’s a community there with the players and the coaches and lots of good people I know through the circle of soccer,” Nam says.

“It’s not like I’m looking for them to become professionals, I just want to keep them involved in some physical activity. Soccer has given me a lot so I’m trying to give back to the community.  Somebody coached me; somebody spent that time. Somebody needs to do that for these kids, otherwise they’re back to the electronics, nowadays,” Nam observes.

Staying connected to the community is important to the Kular family, and their connection to our neighbourhood goes back more than a decade.
